After nearly a decade of trying, Communities in Bloom organizers are thrilled that Sarnia has won the International Challenge Competition in the "very large city" category. Sarnia beat out Chatham-Kent and Zlin, Czech Republic for the prestigious honour. City and county councillor Anne Marie Gillis represented Sarnia at the awards ceremony in Kamloops B-C Saturday. She says the remediation effort at Centennial Park really impressed the judges.

Gillis says the judges commented on the beauty of Germain Park but did say signage could be improved. She says funds, in future, may be allocated for that purpose.
