It's now mandatory for buildings in Ontario with six or more suites containing a fuel fired appliance or attached garage to have CO alarms outside all sleeping areas.
The law came into effect earlier this month.
Sarnia Fire Prevention Officer Roel Bus stresses the importance of having a CO alarm and says the fine for not having the device is $360.

Bus says it's up to the tenant of a building to report broken or missing CO alarms to their landlord.
Sarnia Fire has responded to over 125 CO related incidents so far this year.
