Long Sought Hwy. 40 Widening Still Active

Sarnia's mayor is surprised by comments attributed to Ontario's transport minister suggesting plans remain very active for the widening of Hwy. 40.

An email to BlackburnNews.com from Steven Del Duca's media liaison says the minister is monitoring an ongoing Planning and Environmental Assessment Study for Hwy. 40 between Churchill Line and Hwy. 402.

The email says the technically preferred plan includes widening Hwy. 40 from two to four lanes, as well as interchange and intersection improvements.

Mayor Mike Bradley says they've heard nothing for almost a decade.

The minister is also said to be monitoring the consultation process with stakeholders, the public and First Nations.

Mayor Bradley says the ministry asked the city to talk with the Aamjiwnaang community, but the municipality told the province that falls within its jurisdiction.
