Consolidation Plans At LKDSB

The Lambton Kent District School Board is looking to consolidate various schools across the area, to help improve efficiencies caused by low enrolment numbers.

Director of Education Jim Costello says the eight phase plan would take up to six years to complete, reducing the number of schools from 65 to 49 and increasing capacities from 70 to 83 per cent.

He says the phases would include consolidations within Sarnia elementary, Blenheim-Ridgetown, Forest , Chatham , Dresden as well as Corunna-Mooretown area.

Costello says ideally they would close Colonel Cameron and Mooretown-Courtright Public Schools, and relocate those students to Sir John Moore Community School.

At it's board meeting November 24th, LKDSB trustees approved Accommodation Review Committees for the first two phases, including the recommended consolidation of SCITS and St Clair secondary schools in Sarnia as well as the South Plympton and Wyoming public schools.
