City Clerk Vacates Position

Sarnia's City Clerk Nancy Wright-Laking has handed in her notice and is no longer working for the city.

City Manager Margaret Misek-Evans says Wright-Laking has already begun a new position in Lambton Shores as the city clerk there.

She says they have posted to fill her previous position in several different professional and municipal publications.

"So we're at this point waiting for applications to be filed," says Misek-Evans. "It's been a bit slow over the last couple weeks of course because of the holidays, but hopefully in the next week or two we'll have a pool to draw from and interview."

The city's deputy clerk, Dianne Gould-Brown, is now the acting Clerk in the interim.

For the time being, she's responsible for compiling and distributing council agendas, attending council meetings, and overseeing the department.

Misek-Evans says a couple of pre-booked civil marriage ceremonies will be completed, but future bookings will be put on hold until the position is filled.
