Weekend Fire in Petrolia Ruled Accidental

Damage is estimated at $100,000 in an apartment fire in Petrolia Saturday that sent an occupant to hospital. The Petrolia and Wyoming fire departments responded to a four-plex in the 200 block of Eureka St. around 9am. Petrolia Deputy Chief Dave Connors says the blaze in a basement unit is not suspicious in nature.

"The investigator from the Ontario Fire Marshall's offices determined in his preliminary investigation this is an accidental fire." Connors says the Ontario Fire Marshall's Office is investigating. "He's complete, he's all done with his on scene investigation. He will carry on with some lab testing of some equipment and appliances." It's expected a person taken to hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation will be released sometime today.
