Disqualified Driver Faces Charges

A 22-year-old Sarnia man is facing numerous charges after a brief chase and traffic stop by Sarnia police.

Police say the man was driving his car down Exmouth St. Wednesday and allegedly covered his face when officers drove past.

When officers tried to initiate a traffic stop, the vehicle pulled into a residental complex at the east end of Exmouth. Police say after cutting off another car, the vehicle was abandoned in a snow drift.

The suspect was apprehended after a brief foot chase. The accused was charged with driving while disqualified, resisting a peace officer and three counts of breach of probation.

On Thursday, the suspect was taken to the Sarnia courthouse for a bail hearing. Police say he became agitated while talking with his lawyer, and allegedly smashed a courthouse phone.

He is now facing an additional charge of breach of probation, and two counts of mischief and has been remanded into police custody.
