Minister Responds To Hwy. 402 Concerns

Ontario's Ministry of Transportation will analyze new collision data along an accident-prone stretch of Hwy. 402 between Mandaumin Rd. and Oil Heritage Rd.

The commitment is made in a follow-up letter to Lambton County Council that reiterates minister Steven Del Duca's commitment to hold a roundtable meeting with local politicians on area transportation concerns.

No date has been announced yet.

Plympton-Wyoming Mayor Lonny Napper says while there hasn't been a lot of snow to deal with so far this winter, there are indications the ministry is being more vigilant about maintenance.

"I imagine it will have an effect on it, but I've already had reports from people that travel that road frequently that they feel that there's more salt and more care given to that road," he says.

Last year Carillion Canada, the company that holds the winter maintenance contract for the 402, was fined $900,000 for failing to adequately clear highways in a timely fashion after snowfalls.

The company is under investigation again this month following a storm in the Peel and Halton regions January 1.
