Imperial Oil is warning the public that the plume coming from the main boiler stack at the Sarnia manufacturing site is darker than normal Tuesday.
The company says their main CO boiler tripped around 1:30pm, requiring it to be restarted.
Personnel were taking steps to minimize emissions during the restart.
Imperial does not expect emissions from the outage to exceed government guidelines. They say testing conducted during past boiler outages shows emissions have not exceeded health related air quality standards. Testing during the outage continues to ensure emissions remain within government guidelines.
It is anticipated this will have no impact on supply of refined products.
The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and the community have been notified.
