Travis Konecny scored twice and added two assists, and Jakob Chychrun dished out four helpers, as the Sarnia Sting (34-17-5-2) downed the Barrie Colts (35-20-0-2) 6-2 before a crowd of 3,058 at the SSEC Friday night.
The Sting jumped up to a 2-0 first period lead on goals by Konecny and Devon Paliani. Barrie's Andrew Mangiapane narrowed the lead to 2-1 with his 43rd goal of the season 5:53 into the second. Both teams exchanged goals and the Sting lead 5-2 after two.
Sting defenceman Jeff King capped the scoring with a powerplay goal just over five minutes into the third stanza. Brandon Lindberg and Anthony Salinitri also scored for the Sting.
Sarnia goalie Charlie Graham made 29 saves on 31 shots while Barrie's MacKenzie Blackwood stopped 26 of 32 Sting shots.
The victory moves the Sting back into second place in the OHL's Western Conference standings with 75 points, and one point up on the Windsor Spitfires for top spot in the West Division.
The Sting travel to Owen Sound Saturday and host Guelph Sunday night on CHOK.
