Toll Parity Proposed At Bridge

A toll adjustment for travellers coming into Canada at the Blue Water Bridge has been proposed.

The Michigan Department of Transportation is holding public hearings next week to discuss a parity policy at the international crossing.

Spokesperson Jocelyn Hall says the policy would allow MDOT to adjust the tolls, every six months, depending on the currency exchange rate.

"This is essentially the exact same policy that we have in place at other Michigan crossings," says Hall. "The international bridge, the tunnel and the Mackinac bridge all have a parity policy in place."

Passenger vehicle tolls would increase from the current $3 Canadian per trip to $4 based on the value of the loonie.

Hearings will be held on Thursday March 10 from 3 to 5pm at the Port Huron Municipal Building, and from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at the municipal office in Point Edward.

If approved, the changes would take effect April 1.
