Two Organizations Seek County Funds

Lambton County Council has referred two grant requests to budget deliberations totalling $327,000.

During its meeting in Wyoming Wednesday, council first heard a delegation from the Sarnia Historical Society, asking for $6,000 for two projects.

Secretary Treasurer and Chief Editor Phil Egan says funds will go towards publishing a book on the 175-year history of the Sarnia Fire Department and an oral history of everyday life in Lambton.

Egan, who is visually impaired, says he has received great volunteer help researching microfiche to help write "Walking through Fire: The History of Sarnia's Bravest" and is looking forward to its release in September.

County council also heard from three members proposing the creation of a multi-service youth hub for 16/17 year-old youth in Sarnia-Lambton.

The project, currently in Phase 2 and looking for a location, asks for $321,000 to give youth a drop-in centre with localized services to help them succeed.

County of Lambton budget deliberations begin at 9am March 16.
