Vipers Bite Legionnaires, Gain Series Lead

The LaSalle Vipers downed the visiting Sarnia Legionnaires 6-2 to take a 2-1 best-of-seven first round series lead in GOJHL playoff action Sunday night.

Brock Perry scored both Legionnaire goals while Brett Primeau led the way for LaSalle with two goals and two assists.

The game was tied 1-1 after the first period. The Vipers scored 56 seconds into the second frame to pull ahead 2-1, then Brock Perry tied the game 2-2 on the powerplay eight minutes later on a nice pass from Ryan Vendramin.

The Vipers pulled ahead 3-2 four minutes later and went on to score three goals in the third period, including an empty netter.

Tempers flared midway through the third period when LaSalle's Nolan Gardiner took down Brett Storr along the end boards. Legionnaires defenceman Sam McCormack stepped in to fight Gardiner. Both were ejected from the game and will be suspended one game each for fighting in the last ten minutes of the game.

With 40 seconds left, Legionnaires forward Jarret Marks was handed a five minute major for a head check on Viper forward Manny Silverio. Marks could also be forced to miss game four due to suspension.

The Legionnaires host LaSalle Tuesday night at Sarnia Arena for game four of the series. You can hear all of the action on 103.9FM-1070AM CHOK.
