Bowman Centre Gives Energy Strategy Thumbs Up

The recently released Canadian Energy Strategy is getting a thumbs up from Bowman Centre officials.

The federal government is co-investing in hydrocarbons and electricity to help with global demand for hydrocarbon and petrochemical products while reducing greenhouse gas emissions .

Bowman Centre Executive Director Gary Locke says the recently rebranded SABER (Advanced Bitumen Energy Refinery) project can play a role in reducing the carbon footprint.

"SABER is being redefined as a project we now call SABER 21, meaning the environmentally conscious 21st century refinery that will maximize the non-fuel side of the hydrocarbons that we process," says Locke.

The $10-billion project would process heavy crude from the Alberta Oil Sands and had been described as a potential game-changer for the economy.
