Councillor Wants Action Plan On Vandalism

A Sarnia councillor is calling for collaborative efforts from city staff and police to help target recent acts of vandalism.

Brian White says it's taking a toll on the city's morale.

The city has helped clean up after various vandalism acts including the recent torching of temporary washrooms in Centennial Park and spray painting of the F-86 Golden Hawk memorial.

During a meeting on Monday, Sarnia councillors will vote on White's notice of motion calling for an action plan.

The councillor says perhaps it's in the form of a public awareness campaign, which outlines what the costs to the community are each time one is damage or destroyed.

"Somebody knows the people who are doing these acts," he says. "I'm hoping that by shining the light on the cost, that will spark a little bit more of a proactive approach from the community."

It's expected a report will come back to council on the plan's progress later in the spring.
