The Sarnia Sting set a pair of franchise records in a dramatic, come-from-behind, 6-4 win over the Saginaw Spirit at the Dow Event Centre Saturday night.
With the victory, the Sting now have six wins in a row, and a franchise-best 42 wins and 91 points. Travis Konecny led the way for Sarnia with two goals and three assists, for a personal-best 101 regular season points.
Anthony Salinitri opened the scoring for the Sting just 5:37 into the opening frame. The Spirit notched three straight goals, including one off the stick of former Sting Hayden Hodgson, to open up a 3-1 lead after one. Connor Brown added a second period tally to put the home side ahead 4-1 after two periods.
The Sting stormed back with five unanswered goals in the final stanza. Konecny scored twice, while Salinitri, Jakob Chychrun, and Jordan Kyrou added singles.
Rookie Sting goalie Aidan Hughes made 23 saves while Evan Cormier stopped 43 of 49 Sarnia shots. The Sting outshot Saginaw by a whopping 24-8 margin in the final period.
The Sting cap off the OHL's regular season on Sunday night at the SSEC against the visiting Windsor Spitfires. You can hear the game live on 1039FM-1070AM CHOK. Coverage begins just after 6:30pm.
Playoffs get underway Friday, March 25 with the second seeded Sting hosting the seventh ranked Sault St. Marie Greyhounds.
