NOVA Chemicals continues preparation work for a new world-scale polyethylene plant that could be built in Sarnia-Lambton in the next few years.
The company has project groups in place to research the viability of building a new facility using their advanced Sclairtech Technology, and to determine the ultimate capacity of the Corunna cracker.
Manufacturing Director Tom Thompson says the company is replacing a 4 km stretch of pipeline between Sarnia and Windsor.
He says they've also received approval to connect to a second natural gas liquids pipeline.
"We've got one supply coming in from the Marcellus Shale basin in Pennsylvania and the second source will be coming from Ohio, says Thompson.
"We plan to do the final tie ins in the pipeline in early 2018 and complete the work at the plant by 2018 as well."
Thompson says the $400-million in upgrades are part of the company's 2020 Growth Strategy.
Other work includes converting the Corunna cracker to ethane, and adding 200 rail spots at the Moore facility to provide more flexibility to store product on site.
