Lambton College is hosting the 43rd annual Lambton County Science Fair.
Grades 3-12 students will be divided into four different age groups competing for $5,000 in prizes.
"Unfortunately, due to pressures on the curriculum, most schools no longer have their own science fair," says spokesperson Peter Smith. "So this is really the only opportunity that students in Lambton County have to take part in."
Smith says there will be a variety of student built projects on display.
"It gives them an opportunity to do some research of their own to think of a topic and something they want to study and then to present it to the judges. There's everything from the highly technological, from robotic hands or pumps for the heart," he says. "We've had a lot of computerized projects over the years."
Smith adds there are also a lot of simple projects that students make to address social needs.
The fair is on Friday April 8 and Saturday April 9 in gym at Lambton College.
The best projects presented from high school students have a chance to be entered into the Canada Wide Science Fair in Montreal from May 15-20.
