Oil Heritage District Community Centre To Get Makeover

A $135,000 grant from the Alix Foundation has provided the impetus for a multi-year, $1-million proposed expansion of the Oil Heritage District Community Centre.

Petrolia Mayor John McCharles says the initial grant will help replace the aging gymnasium floor.

"We're really delighted that the Alix Foundation took a look at Petrolia, and gave us money to move forward with an expansion at the community centre," says McCharles.

"I think it's really great to receive that funding and it puts us in a position to plan for new expansion there."

The plans call for two multi-purpose studios for meetings and fitness specialty training, as well as extra showers.

Mayor McCharles says the town will kick in $35,000 and pursue what upper tier funding might be available.
