Sarnia Transit Going Green

Sarnia Transit is embarking on a first of its kind project at two of its bus shelters.

Manager Jim Stevens says they're installing solar technology to light up the structures.

"Running hydro under the streets to many of our shelters is quite expensive," he says. "We're experimenting a newer upgraded solar technology in two new shelters on Exmouth St., one in front of Trillium Park Apartments and the other just west of Capel."

If the technology proves successful, Stevens says they would gradually install it at other bus shelters in the city.

Sarnia Transit continues to lay 10-15 new larger concrete bus stop pads to better accommodate riders with physical challenges.
