A bake sale fundraiser at Sarnia's downtown Bayside Centre Tuesday raised over $3,000 for Fort McMurray relief efforts.
Organizer Lara Sazonov says it will be matched by TD and the federal government, bringing the entire Red Cross donation to over $12,000.
"We are beyond grateful and so excited that we could do that," she says. "We had lots of families come out from Fort McMurray and it was emotional and wonderful and awesome. We couldn't have asked it to go any better."
The bake sale, which ran from 10am until 2pm in front of the Lambton Shared Services Centre, was completely sold out by noon.
Sazonov says about 500 people showed up in total, including Mayor Mike Bradley and firefighters with Sarnia Fire and Rescue Services.
"Some people came and bought something that was 50 cents and they would donate $10.00. Some people were just handing us hundreds of dollars, like 'it's going to a good cause, here you go,'" she says.
"It was amazing, it was really, really great."
