Sunday Storms Wreak Havoc

Sunday's wild weather felled trees and hydro poles and made a mess at Artwalk in downtown Sarnia.

A 45km/h wind gust with near horizontal rain blew through just before the noon hour yesterday in Sarnia, dismantling at least two big tents at Artwalk and sending most of the over 200 vendors packing up their wares.

A stretch of Hwy. 40 between Fairview Line and Maynard Line in Chatham-Kent was closed for about nine hours after multiple hydro poles came down in high winds. It didn't reopen until about midnight.

There were several hydro outages in the area but service has since been restored.

City works crews sprung into action to remove felled limbs on boulevards with damage also recorded in other parts of rural Lambton County.

There was another wind gust of about 48km/h at 6pm with 25.4mm or just over an inch of rain reported since Sunday morning.

There's a chance of more showers and thunderstorms again Monday afternoon.
