Another Shake-Up At Sarnia City Hall

There has been another shake-up at Sarnia City Hall.

After 41 years on the job, the mayor's secretary is on the move.

Sarnia Council reported out of its closed session Monday that staff were directed to make an organizational change to a staff position.

Janis Moore will now work out of the city clerk's office under the new title of Executive Assistant to the Mayor and Sarnia City Council.

Councillor Dave Boushy voted against the change.

"It's very unfair and cruel to do to a dedicated employee," says Boushy.

"In my opinion hundreds, thousands of people across this city know Janis. They dealt with her. She was available and listened to people and their problems, she was a lady, was kind and understanding."

Councillor Brian White says the position hasn't been reviewed in over 20 years and the city is revising the job description.

"That's part of modernizing a city, evaluating each job description and trying to update them as times change," says White.

Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley says Moore is being treated with total disrespect by this council and by the city manager.

"I can not tell you how disappointing that is. Council has issues with myself, which they've made very clear and they've been very punitive toward me in the last couple of weeks. I accept that. But, to turn around and victimize a person who has served the city and who is beloved in the city family for her service and her dedication is really regrettable and disappointing," says Bradley.

"It's a sign of the climate at city hall. I can say this, in very general terms to protect people's privacy, anyone that was associated with me within city hall and worked closely with me, has been removed or put in a different position and I don't think treated fairly."

Moore was hired in the city clerk's office in 1973 and moved to the mayor's office two years later.

She served as Executive Assistant to mayors Andy Brandt, Marcel Saddy, Ron Gordon and Mike Bradley.
