Traffic control was set up as a precaution around the Pembina facility in St. Clair Township over the noon hour Wednesday in response to a propane vapour cloud release from a brine pond.
In a news release from Calgary, Pembina Pipeline Corporation says the emergency flare system at its Corunna facility began to flare off propane. At 12:23pm a vapour cloud was seen at one of the brine ponds but it dissipated quickly and there was "no enduring risk to Pembina personnel, the public or the environment."
City police and OPP set up roadblocks for a short time at Hwy. 40 and LaSalle Line and at Hwy. 40 and Hill St.
The all clear for traffic control was issued at 12:45pm.
Pembina says flaring at the facility south of LaSalle Line just east of Hwy. 40 was continuing and all systems remained safely isolated. The company says it will be launching a detailed investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
