Provincial police issued a warning to Sarnia-Lambton residents Thursday night about reduced visibility and heavy smoke due to a massive fire at the St. Clair Power Plant on the US side of the St. Clair River.
The Times Herald is reporting that rescue crews were called to the plant in East China Township shortly before 6:30pm on Thursday.
The blaze was reportedly caused by an electrical generation unit catching fire.
According to a statement from DTE Energy, plant employees were evacuated safely, and there were no known injuries.
The Ministry of Environment dispatched a team to the area to measure air quality, but no evacuation was required.
The OPP closed St Clair Pkwy. between Stanley Line and Oil Springs Line in St. Clair Township due to reduced visibility. Bentpath Line between Hwy. 40 and St. Clair Pkwy. was closed as well.
