It is now expected to be the largest viewing area of 181 locations publicly airing the CBC broadcast of the Tragically Hip's final concert Saturday night in Kingston.
Blackburn Radio Marketing Director Aaron Zimmer says exact numbers won't be known until the event begins at Canatara Park but it's expected to be in the thousands
"It just started to grow so fast that we had to triple everything from the original plan when we started out so more porta-potties, a bigger licensed area and more security," says Zimmer. "We actually could be and should be the largest outdoor viewing event in Canada."
Zimmer says there will be no problem seeing the broadcast on two 30 ft inflatable video screens and the sound system will be similar to one used at Ribfest.
The event begins at 6pm with the broadcast beginning at 8:30pm.
Sarnia Transit will be offering rides for a dollar from Northgate Plaza and downtown Sarnia every 15 minutes beginning at 6:15pm until 8:15pm. They'll resume their routes at 11:30pm until 1:15am after the show.
Donations will be accepted for the Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research and the Bluewater Health Foundation. 100% of the proceeds from the beverage and t-shirts sales and a portion of the food sales will be passed along to the charities.
Sarnia's Tragically Hip viewing party is just one of ten in the country that a Toronto-based production company will assign a film crew to.
Banger Films wants footage from the Sarnia event because it feels it will be one of the largest and most unique.
Those attending at Canatara Park Saturday night are encouraged to make signs and bring Canadian flags.
