Lambton College Awarded Federal Research Funding

Lambton College has won research funding from the federal government. Sarnia-Lambton MP Marilyn Gladu says two projects worth $2.45-million are being funded through the College and Community Innovation Program.

The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council announced its support Wednesday.

Gladu says one of the projects will see $2.3-million go to the Lambton Energy Research Centre over five years.

"They're supporting a lot of renewable energy technology and so that's definitely in alignment with where this government wants to take us and that's why they received the funding," says Gladu.

The other project is for $150,000 for a High-Performance Liquid Chromatography - Mass Spectrometer to be used in bio-industrial process research applications.

Gladu says Lambton College can play a role in making power more sustainable. "Certainly we have to stop signing contracts at 42 cents a kilowatt hour for power which is not a sustainable, affordable model but there are technologies that are coming out in bio-fuels and a lot of the new renewables, that are economical."
