There will be a brand new playground area and healing garden in the remediated Centennial Park.
Park and Recreation Director Rob Harwood says the Rotary Club of Sarnia Bluewaterland has donated $150,000 to fund both features.
The playground and garden designs will be accessible, integrating features such as sensory panels and a wheelchair accessible gliding ship.
"As was the previous playground, this one will also be in the shape of a boat," he says. "It will be fully accessible and will be suitable for children aged 18 months to 12 years of age."
The healing garden includes three raised planting beds to provide easy access to users with mobility challenges.
Mr. Harwood says it should be installed by, at the latest, year's end and hopefully by the end of November.
Meantime, the city's Environmental Services Superintendent is reporting that all of the underground electrical, water and sanitation work at the park is complete.
"In the coming weeks citizens will start seeing lots of material moving into and around the park as major visual changes begin,” says Joe Boothe.
