Johnson's First Shutout Powers Legionnaires Over Stars

Jorgen Johnson made 20 saves for his first GOJHL shutout, as the Sarnia Legionnaires beat the visiting St. Thomas Stars 4-0 Thursday night.

The Legionnaires got first period goals from Jarrett Marks and Sam McCormack, and third period tallies from Ethan Dupont and Joey Zappa. Justin Van Buskirk dished out two assists.

Zappa's goal came on a slick back hand move on a breakaway for his team-leading 9th goal of the season.

Head Coach Mark Davis was impressed by the effort, especially after losing 6-2 in St. Thomas Friday night.

"It was a great game, Johnson played well. I thought all four lines played well and we got to roll the lines," says Davis.

"We took a lot of penalties but at the end with three minutes left I was still putting out the 3rd and 4th lines. It gives them more experience for down the road when we hit January and February."

The Legionnaires penalty kill was solid, killing off all nine St. Thomas powerplays.

St. Thomas goalie Dan Black made 25 saves on 29 Sarnia shots.

Sarnia is now 1-2-0 against the Stars this season and 12-8-0-0 overall. They sit 5th in the Western Conference, seven points behind the first place LaSalle Vipers.

The Legionnaires return to action Friday night in St. Marys to take on the last place Lincolns.
