2016 Lighting Competition Underway

With this years Celebration of Lights back bigger and better than recent years, it's hoped momentum will pick up in the residential competition as well.

Single residential properties in Sarnia, Pt. Edward and Corunna are invited to participate.

Board member Dean Holtz says the board wrestled with the idea of not doing it, but he couldn't let that happen.

"This all started because of Harvey McMichael, who really did his house up nice on Oak St. and I said if anything, having the residential lighting competition needs to be a part of it," says Holtz. "I remember my parents always took us out to drive around and look at lights and I always looked forward to his, because in the 80s his was by far the most decorated home in the city. That was the inspiration for both the Celebration of Lights display down on the waterfront, but also the residential lighting competition."

Holtz says you can read the rules and register your home online at www.celebrationoflights.com until December 9.

Properties will be judged on arrangement of lights, maximum use of surroundings and overall creativity December 13.

Bluewater Power is sponsoring the event and plans to provide cash prizes to the winners.
