Sarnia's Police Chief wants to know why people are taking the chance.
Phil Nelson says he is both frustrated and disappointed by recent collisions involving alleged impaired drivers in the region.
"You only have to go to a few of the MADD vigils, listen to family members and the grief that they still go through about losing loved ones, to realize that there's a personal story to impaired operation," says Nelson.
In 2015, Sarnia Police laid a total of 39 charges for impaired driving. Nelson says that number was reached by August this year.
He says there is always a way to get home, especially with taxi services now available and most hotels offering shuttle service.
"To take the chance and drink and drive and for the rest of your life have on your mind that you severely injured or killed a family member or someone else because of stupidity... it's not acceptable," says Nelson.
Nelson hopes residents really think twice before getting behind the wheel this holiday season.
