Plympton-Wyoming Council has decided to maintain the existing first-past-the-post election model for the 2018 municipal elections.
Chief Administrative Officer Carolyn Tripp says they're also going to look into the costs of using internet and telephone voting as an alternative voting method.
"What we've heard from the individuals that provide this type of service is that the turnouts for elections actually increases," says Tripp. "It's also less expensive. You have to have two trained individuals at every poll and this doesn't require all that. You would have the ability to still come in to the municipal office or maybe the library if they need assistance on this. But otherwise, they'd be able to do it on their own in the comfort of their home on their phone or on the computer."
The final decision will be up to council.
Warwick Township Council has also directed staff to set up internet and telephone voting for the next municipal election.
