Art Walk Takes Over Downtown Sarnia

Art Walk will be taking over downtown Sarnia this weekend.

Vendors and performers will line Christian St, with live local music also on the busy agenda.

Coordinator Shawn McKnight says they will once again be offering a bicycle corral to encourage people to ride their bikes downtown.

"There could be a lot of traffic and not a lot of parking spaces," says McKnight. "Bluewater Trails and the Bike Shop are put on the bike corral again, so they'll park your bike and give you a tune up for free."

New this year is Busker Alley on Lochiel St, which will feature a wide range of performers throughout the weekend.

He says the event, in its 14th year, has really helped the downtown core.

"There was a couple of store fronts along one strip of Christina that had stores in them, and now there is just a couple that are empty. The downtown has really filled up, and there's apartments above most downtown shops."

He says the TD Multicultural Village returns this year, and will feature all three local aboriginal communities.

"We noticed last year we had this big multicultural area, but not a lot of local culture, so a board member reached out to the local communities and they were more than happy to take part."

The event runs from 11am until 5pm Saturday and Sunday.

Christina St. from Wellington to George St. is closed to traffic.
