Quiet Canada Day Weekend For Sarnia Police

Sarnia police say the long Canada Day weekend was fairly quiet with no major incidents reported.

Constable John Sottosanti says officers responded to 225 calls for service.

Just three people were arrested for liquor-related offences at Friday's fireworks display and three others were escorted out of the park area for rowdy behaviour.

"Up to 4 or 6 years ago, we had increased problems and it was actually scaring people from coming down to the celebration," says Sottosanti.

"Individuals and crowds were getting into fights, drinking and lighting fireworks off right into the crowds. With the stepped up enforcement, from the Sarnia Police Service, that seems to have declined significantly and people are having a good and safe time."

Constable Sottosanti says officers also responded to 14 disturbing the peace calls and 10 noise complaints.
