UPDATE: Suspect Named In Home Invasion

Sarnia police have identified a man arrested in connection with an armed home invasion on Overlea Cres. around 3:30am New Year's Day.

The initial investigation led police to the 300-block of Alexandra Ave. in Point Edward. Sarnia police and OPP closed off the roadway for almost ten hours on Sunday, but no suspect was found.

Later that night, Sarnia police returned to the home and arrested a man.

Kevin Simpson, 30, of Sarnia is facing a long list of charges including four counts of break and enter and committing assault, four counts of assault with a weapon (pepper spray), assault with a weapon (firearm), assault causing bodily harm, mischief, theft under $5,000, breach of recognizance, use of a firearm while committing an indictable offence, and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

He was held for a bail hearing and has since been remanded into custody.

Police say the home invasion incident was not a random act, and the people involved are known to each other. Two other male suspects in connection with the case have not yet been identified. A 33-year-old man suffered facial injuries but refused treatment, after being struck with a firearm and exposed to pepper spray. A 28-year-old woman and two girls aged 4 and 5 were treated at hospital for exposure to pepper spray. Two other children in the home were not injured.

Police say three weapons used in the home invasion have been recovered including a knife, pepper spray and a camouflaged Winchester 12 gauge pump action shotgun. A handgun used in the case remains unaccounted for. Police are also looking to return the shotgun to its rightful owner. Gun owners are being asked to check their inventory for missing firearms.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call Sarnia police or Crime Stoppers.
