One of Sarnia's last surviving veterans of World War II has died.
Bill Hale died last Wednesday at the age of 94.
He joined the army in 1941 and was stationed at Fort Garry Horse Regiment in Winnipeg.
On June 6, 1944, he crossed the English Channel as a tank driver, landing in France on D-Day.
Hale spent four years in Europe, moving through France, Belgium, Holland and Germany and was nicknamed "Lucky" after surviving several tank explosions.
He received many medals for his efforts, including the prestigious "Legion d'Honneur" from the French government.
Visitation will be held at Smith Funeral Home on London Line this Friday from 4pm-7pm.
A funeral service, also at Smith Funeral Home, is planned Saturday at 11am.
