Doctors Threaten Job Action

Job action is being considered by Lambton's 160 physicians if talks between the provincial health ministry and the Ontario Medical Association don't resume.

The president of the Lambton County Medical Association, Sarnia pediatrician Dr. Kunwar Singh, says it's time to return to the table.

"We want the government to sit down and negotiate," says Singh. "If we do not have binding arbitration and if the government does not sit down, then we will definitely take 100% job action."

Singh says physician services have undergone significant cuts over the last few years.

In the event of job action, Singh says patients would not be impacted and emergency care would still be provided.

An attempt to overthrow the top executives representing the Ontario Medical Association failed on Sunday, after votes at a special meeting orchestrated by a breakaway group of doctors fell short of the required two-thirds majority.
