Police Name Second Woman Accused In Bank Robbery

Sarnia police have released the name of a second person charged following the robbery of the CIBC in downtown Sarnia.

Deborah Benusik, 61, was arrested at a residence in the 400-block of Greenfield St. in Petrolia on Saturday.

During a search of the residence, police allege that they recovered a quantity of cash stolen from the bank, along with a small amount of methamphetamine.

As a result, Benusik is charged with robbery, accessory to robbery after the fact, possession of a controlled substance, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and conspiracy to commit robbery.

On February 1, a woman wearing a disguise entered the CIBC at Front St. and Lochiel St., and demanded money from a teller.

Lindsay Rene Smith, 37, was arrested for the crime after a warrant was executed at motel room on London Line later that same day. She has been charged with two counts of breach of probation, robbery with threats of violence, assault with a weapon, uttering threats, possession of property obtained by crime, disguise with intent and public mischief.

Both suspects remain in custody.
