Sarnia-Lambton real estate sales are off to a solid start this year.
In January, 116 properties sold with a dollar volume of $27.9-million, setting a new ten-year record high and up 3% from the same month last year.
Real Estate Board President Steve Park says he is pleased to see MLS listings up 21% for the month.
"In the last year, we just did not have the inventory," says Park. "Now we're seeing more houses being listed, which is a very strong support for the market."
He says it's encouraging, but listings are still running low.
"We usually carry somewhere between five and 700 listings, at any given time and for the month, right now we have 258 active listings, and that is even with us being up 21%. So we're a long way from any sort of saturation at all," says Park.
Of the 258 active listings in the MLS system, 210 were single family homes, 164 of which were new in January.
The highest number of residential sales was 27 in the $100,000 to $150,000 range.
The average sale price so far this year is just over $226,000.
