Irish Win Boys Hockey Final In Dramatic Fashion

St. Patrick's needed overtime to top Great Lakes 1-0 in the 'AAA' Senior Boys Hockey final Friday afternoon at Clearwater Arena.

The Irish hit three goal posts in the third period, two off the stick of Devin Devooght, but neither team could find the back of the net in regulation.

Curtis Marks was the overtime hero for the Irish, beating Great Lakes goalie Luc Thorne-Smith with a five hole shot to send St. Pat's to the SWOSSAA Final.

"I love playing in front of a big crowd, seeing a bunch of my friends from school, it was awesome," says Marks.

The Irish will now face Windsor St. Anne's in the SWOSSAA final next week. Marks says they're hoping for a different result this time around.

"They beat us out last year, but we're confident and we really want to win this one and advance to OFSAA," he says.

Both goaltenders played solid, with Sting prospect Jakob Knowles picking up the shutout victory in the Irish net. Luc Thorne-Smith deserves a ton of credit as well, making several big saves for the Wolf Pack to keep the game scoreless in regulation.

St. Pat's and St. Anne's will face off for a 7pm puck drop next Tuesday, March 7 at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.
