Annual Maple Syrup Festival In Alvinston

It's a great educational experience that will tickle your taste buds at the same time.

The A.W. Campbell Maple Syrup Festival will be held March 18 and 19 from 10am until 3pm at the Conservation Authority on Shiloh Line 3 km north-east of Alvinston.

Spokesperson Sharon Nethercott says they'll highlight methods used by pioneers and First Nations.

"We will have some hands-on displays." she says. "People will be able to try out the wooden yoke. We have a couple of logs on the ground and some brace and bits so people can actually use the old hand drills to see how difficult it is to put a hole in a tree manually without electricity."

Horse-drawn wagon rides will be offered from 11am until 2pm.

Admission to the Conservation Area is $2 per car.

The Alvinston Firemen's Association will be hosting their traditional pancake and sausage meals at the Alvinston Community Centre.
