Empty Bowls Event Marks Ten Years

Lambton College hopes to raise $10,000 through Friday's tenth annual Empty Bowls event.

The funds will be split between the Inn of the Good Shepherd and the college's campus food bank.

Ceramics Teacher Beth Turnbull-Morrish says $25 gets you soup and bread, and one of 400 handmade pottery bowls. They're made by college students and staff, and members of the Sarnia-Lambton Potters Guild.

"Each potter's style is different from another person's and then each potter will also make some different bowls," says Turnbull-Morrish. "For example, this year I made some bowls that had blue birds on them, some with words and lettering, and some with a bright green colour. It's amazing, there will be such a good variety."

Soups include split pea, buffalo chicken, roasted tomato, tomato minestrone, and smoked pork and veggie. They've been donated by local restaurants.

The dinner, at the Lambton College Events Centre, is sold out. Seatings are at 5pm and 7pm, with 150 people expected to attend each dinner.
