Centennial Hall Options To Be Considered This Month

Warwick Township Council has instructed staff to prepare a report on options for Centennial Hall in Watford and report back for its April 24 meeting.

A engineering report released in late January found the 50-year-old building is in poor condition with several building code violations and recommended it be closed.

Warwick Township Mayor Todd Case says they've come up with some interim measures to keep the building open.

"We'll use smoke detectors and some other new technology to offset any problems for people using the basement and stairwell," says Case.

The engineering report estimated it would cost $525,000 to upgrade Centennial Hall and about $1.8-million to build a 6,000 sq ft replacement.

Watford celebrated Canada's 100th birthday in 1967 by opening Centennial Hall on Centennial Ave. next to the ball fields in Centennial Park.
