Starting next season, some Sarnia Sting season ticket holders will have a chance to exchange unused tickets for upcoming games.
Marketing and Communications Director Dach Hiller says sometimes people get busy and can't make games they have tickets for, now they can swap those unused tickets for a different game.
The exchange program applies to Gold Club season ticket holders. That includes rows 7-10 in sections 116-120, and rows 7-13 in sections 105-109. These were previously referred to as the Hive Club and Centre Ice Club, but have since been renamed. Single tickets in those sections between the bluelines are typically sold for $26.
He says the program rewards season ticket holders, and could also lead to increased attendance for home games.
"There's no question about it, we'd love to see this building packed every night," says Hiller. "The players feed off it, it makes all the hard work during the week worth it when we have a full building on a Friday night."
He says other OHL teams run similar exchange programs, but often with more restrictions.
"Some of them have select number of games where you can exchange tickets, we wanted to avoid that and not have any limitations to the new program," says Hiller. "It works almost like a flex pack, but you get the benefits that are part of being a season ticket holder like exclusive events and gifts we give them."
Gold Club season ticket holders do need to bring in their unused tickets to the box office 48 hours before the game they want tickets for.
The Sting averaged 3,087 fans during the 2016-17 season, the sixth lowest total in the OHL. That is down slightly from 2015-16 when they averaged 3,122.
