McHappy Day Celebrates 40 Years

It's McHappy Day.

Sarnia McDonalds Owner/Operator Colleen Buckley says this year's local beneficiary is the Huron House Boys Home.

For every Big Mac, Happy Meal or hot McCafe beverage purchased, $1 will be passed along to the home.

"We look at the needs in the community and the charity must help children specifically, " says Buckley. "We're fortunate that it is an annual event so we can select a different charity every year, Sadly enough, though, we don't run out of charities because there are so many needs for our children locally."

Huron House Boys Home Executive Director Don Adam says the donations will be put to good use.

"Funds are badly needed," he says. "We have an operational deficit. We need a new roof and we need funding for our summer programs for our boys."

Right now there are 13 boys living at Huron House which only receives government funding for six.

Last year McHappy day locally raised $19,000.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the launch of the Canadian-born McHappy Day.
