Irish Dance School Celebrates 20 Years

The Sarnia School of Irish Dance is celebrating its 20th anniversary with the staging of the 18th annual Celtic Evening Saturday, May 6.

Students will perform intricate hard and soft shoe steps. Joining them on stage will be Celtic fiddlers, pipers, Highland dancers and singers.

School administrator Mairin Ring says it's their biggest event of the year. She says the school is well established, with a record 60 students in the fold this year.

"Our Irish dance group is quite traditional," says Ring. "Our costumes are also quite traditional. A lot of the footwork is the same as River Dance. It's similar, but theirs is somewhat modernized and ours is a bit more traditional and maybe not as fast."

Students also perform at various community events every year, including Canada Day, Greekfest, and Artwalk.

Tickets to the Celtic Evening are available at the Imperial Theatre Box office. The show gets underway at 7pm.
