Beat Goes On For Colts Drum Line

The Colts Drum Line has found a new home.

Founded in 2008 as an extracurricular for the St. Clair Secondary School music department, the program was cut when the school amalgamated with SCITS last year to form Great Lakes Secondary School.

That left the group without space to store its gear or rehearse.

Director Shawn Bryan has announced that they are now operating out of Community of Christ Church at 1104 Leckie Dr., right across Murphy Rd. from the former St. Clair high school.

"It's kind of neat, we're 80 yards away from where we've always been which is a little bit of karma there," says Bryan. "What it allows us to do is continue to offer the program we have for the past eight years, and to grow the program to allow more people to join. We also hope to expand the program to include more colour guard and horns as well."

Bryan says they're now trying to increase membership, offering free drumming lessons for those aged 10 to 21. Anyone interested is invited to show up Tuesday evenings from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.

He says they currently have openings on bass drum, multi-tenor, snare drum and cymbals.
