The trophy was proposed by Captain James T. Sutherland during World War I, as a memorial to remember Ontario Hockey Association players who died during the war.
It now honours all soldiers who died fighting for Canada in any conflict.
The Memorial Cup begins Friday.
The champions of the Canadian Hockey League's three member leagues will join the host Spitfires for the round-robin tournament: the Ontario Hockey League champion Erie Otters, Quebec Major Junior Hockey League champion Saint John Sea Dogs and Western Hockey League champion Seattle Thunderbirds.
