Sarnia's construction manager says a full rebuild of Plank Rd. isn't likely before 2019.
Robert Williams is being asked about the road after it was ranked by the Canadian Automobile Association as the worst road in southwestern Ontario this year.
He says the pavement is at the end of its life but it's far more than a "shave and pave" project.
Williams says the city is waiting for a significant report from Dillon Consulting on the Cole Drain on the west side of the road and the cutoff drain where the Cole Drain outlets.
He says there's also been a significant number of water main breaks along Plank Rd. and that infrastructure needs to be replaced as well.
Williams says the best case scenario is that some of the work could begin next year with the bulk of it possibly being done in 2019.
