Distracted Driving Blitz Planned

Sarnia police are targeting distracted drivers this week.

Constable John Sottosanti says officers will be conducting a zero tolerance enforcement blitz Tuesday and Wednesday.

"Officers from the community services branch, along with the COPPS unit and traffic unit, will be dedicated to looking out for individuals that are driving while holding on to a communication device, for example a cell phone or other device like a GPS," says Sottosanti.

Constable Sottosanti says some drivers are not getting the message and think it's okay to use their phones while stopped at a red light or stop sign.

He says you have to pull over or into a parking lot before talking or texting on your phone.

The offence carries a fine of $490 and three demerit points.
